After the death of her husband, William Warren Wakely in 1854, Sarah Somerville travelled to Raymond Terrace where she married John Henry Hawley, a bachelor of Woodville on 20 March, 1855.
John Henry Hawley was born in Sheffield England, the sixth child of John Hawley, a merchant, and Jemima Vane. He was baptised at St. Dunstan's Stepney London on 24 December, 1812. He arrived in Australia in the late 1840's (?).
His brother, William had emigrated to Australia in the 1830's and another brother, Doctor Richard emigrated in 1862 with his wife and six children. Doctor Richard Hawley became assistant librarian in the N.S.W. State Library in 1869 William Hawley died at Parramatta in 1895 and Doctor Richard Hawley died at Chatswood in 1896.
Sarah and John Hawley had five children. Their first child, Jemima Catherine Hawley was born in January 1856 at Raymond Terrace. John Hawley gave his occupation as store-keeper at the time of Jemima's birth. Henrietta Hawley was born in 1857 at Raymond Terrace but before the birth of their third child, Margaret in 1859, the family had moved to Newcastle. They then moved to Sydney where Margaret died in 1860.
Sarah and John's first son Christopher was born in 1861 but sadly he had died before the birth of his brother Edward Henry in Oct 1863.
The family were still living in Sydney when Jemima married Samuel Shaw in 1882 but apparently moved back to the Raymond Terrace area shortly after.
John Henry Hawley died in Raymond Terrace in October 1897 at the age of 90 years. He was buried in the Wesleyan Cemetery at Raymond Terrace. His death certificate gives his occupation as "master mariner".
John Henry Hawley was also the father of John Pywell who was born in October 1857 at "Eskdale", Raymond Terrace. John Pyweli's mother was Mary Ann Pywell who was born in 1842 in Weldon, Northamptonshire and had arrived in Australia in 1855 with her father, brother and sister.
John Pywell married Annie Way in 1879 at East Maitland. They had eleven children. John Pywell died in 1922 at Luskintyre, Lochinvar.
Sarah Hawley remained in Raymond Terrace until 1909 when she went to live with her daughter Henrietta in Bondi, Sydney. In 1880 Henrietta had married Thomas Fairweather, a builder who at one time was Mayor of Woollahra Council. She had one daughter, Henrietta Maude Hawley.
Sarah Hawley died on August 20, 1913 aged 84 years. She was buried in the General Cemetery at Waverley.
